East Asia Department
Special Subject Collection East- and South-East Asia
The profile of the collection of the East Asia Department is, since 1951, governed by the acquisition policy of the Special Subject Collection (Sondersammelgebiet; SSG 6.25), as defined and funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft).
The main acquisition focus is on relevant scholarly general literature and specialised research literature. In addition, materials with documentary and research value from all areas of regional life are collected comprehensively. Due to the very extensive publishing in East Asia however, it is not possible to really achieve the intended completeness in acquisition. Upon individual requests from users for titles not yet in the collection, these will be ordered individually, if possible, thereby complementing the general acquisition task.
- South-East Asia is attended to by the Oriental Department.
- East and Central Asia is being taken care of by the East Asia Department.
