Reference collection

The music department’s reference collection comprises about 14,500 volumes, which are freely accessible for our readers. These are mainly reference works (encyclopedias, bibliographies, printed catalogues of collections), topic overviews, biographies and catalogues of works, important specialist journals and complete editions and memorial editions. The StaBiKat contains the complete reference collection. Classification scheme of the music reference collection

Reference works on music, special literature, current journal issues as well as facsimile editions can be found on the right side (seen from the entrance) of the Rare Books and Music Reading Room. For spatial reasons readers find the complete editions, memorial editions and the bound journal volumes of the reference holdings in the open stacks on the 4th floor. Access to these items is not only possible during the opening times of the Rare Books and Music Reading Room, these items are accessible during all opening hours of the Haus Unter den Linden.

Readers can reach the open stacks via the main level of the General Reading Room on the 2nd floor; to reach the upper floors readers can either walk up the stairs or take the lift which is located on the left side of the entry.
