Contact us

The acquisition and cataloguing of the special collections are enhanced by a comprehensive information system which is an important support for science and research matters.

The historical printed holdings of the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, including the library‘s special collections, are searchable in the library‘s online catalogue StaBiKat. For subject-related enquiries there are the Old Subject Catalogue ARK (Alter Realkatalog) ARK-Online and the microfiche edition of the Old Subject Catalogue (ARK).
For web-based research on bibliographic information and the history of books and printing there is a link collection of relevant Internet resources.

Oral information
In the Rare Books reading room requested books are supplied and the user can obtain subject-related information as well as detailed bibliographic information. A relevant reference collection and electronic reference tools are at the disposal of the readers.

Written information
We answer inquiries on bibliographic details, subjects, and topics concerning the department’s special print collections. If the desired title is among our holdings, it will be possible in many cases that readers can have a look at the quote or illustration in the respective volumes and compare them with other editions and copies, etc.
In addition to that, reproduction requests are managed as well. Regarding planned publications we cooperate with the picture agency bpk-Bildagentur.
If the desired item is not part of the holdings of the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin or may have been lost during World War II, it is possible to locate which other library holds the item.
