During the general refurbishment works in the front part of the library building, items from the holdings of the Early Printed Books Department are provided in the Rare Books and Music Reading Room. A comprehensive collection of modern reference works as well as various technical aids provide excellent working conditions. In the Rare Books and Music Reading Room you find 36 spacious workplaces and another 10 places for special research purposes as well as microform readers and scanners.

It is not possible to order items from the department’s holdings via the electronic ordering system. Please fill out an order slip in the Rare Books Room.
Users may order items from the stacks at:
11.00 and 14.00
From Monday to Thursday 19.00 for the following day. On Saturdays the stacks are closed.
In addition to the usual delivery times, you have the possibility to place orders via e-mail and specify the date you require the items: Rare Books reading room
For the delivery of the items to the Rare Books and Music Reading Room in the Haus Unter den Linden we need the following indications:
- Library card number
- shelfmark(s), if applicable please indicate special collection (R, KD, EBD, S16)
- information on the item: author, short title, year of printing
- the date you require the item
The requested literature can be collected on the following day at 09.30 at the earliest. If you wish to consult the item on a Saturday, please place your order before 14.00 on Friday.
17th century (1601 - 1700) printed books from the main stacks
Printed items from the 17th century are issued (exclusively) in the Rare Books and Music Reading Room. The conditions of use for the special collections of the Early Printed Books department also apply to these materials. 17th century printed books from the main stacks can be ordered via the electronic ordering system.
