Development of pictorial iconography in 19th century children's and youth literature and school textbooks: a Distant Viewing Approach

Project objective

As opposed to the computational methods to analyse literary data, mass analysis of pictorial material is still a desideratum within the digital humanities. Using the pictorial material of illustrated Children’s and Adolescents‘ non-fiction books as an example, this project sets out to test the possibilities and potential of a technique paralleling that of the distant reading approach.
