Individual study desks, carrels, and StabiBoxes can be booked in both library buildings. All services are free of charge. Book online using your Stabi library card login directly via StabiBooking or via the library’s digital orientation system which shows the current availability of bookable items (red = booked, green = available).

Carrels bookable on a weekly basis are situated

Apply for use of a carrel providing a few details about the intended use. Your request will be answered subject to availability and in accordance with application guidelines. You will receive an email confirming your booking or declining your request.

You can apply for carrels for 1 up to a maximum of 8 weeks (independent of the house) within the current calendar year. All bookings run from Monday to Sunday. If you choose another day than Monday as start of your booking, the system will search for available carrels on the following Monday. The extension of a booked time period is not possible.

You will need to present a booking confirmation to collect the carrel’s key during service hours here.

If you don’t collect the key within 3 days after your booked time slot has started, your booking will expire and the carrel can be booked by other library patrons again.

The return of the key can be done during the entire opening hours.

Terms and conditions for using carrels 

Study desks with StabiBox (carts) are situated Unter den Linden, General Reading Room, 4th floor.

You can book 1 up to a maximum of 3 months. One month equals 28 days. All bookings run from Monday to Sunday. If you choose another day than Monday as start of your booking, the system will search for an available desk with StabiBox on the following Monday.

You can only book currently available time slots without prior notice.

You need to check in by collecting the StabiBox’ key during service hours at Information & Service and providing your booking confirmation. If you don’t collect the key within 3 days after your booked time slot has started, your booking will expire and the study desk including StabiBox can be booked by other library patrons again.

The return of the key can be done during the entire opening hours.

StabiBoxes at Potsdamer Straße are lockable containers you can store work materials in (permanent lockers). They are situated in different areas in the entrance hall on the ground floor.

You can book 1 up to a maximum of 6 months, one month equals 28 days. All bookings run from Monday to Sunday. If you choose another day than Monday as start of your booking, the system will search for an available StabiBox on the following Monday. You can extend the booking once for at most 3 months, starting on the day of extension.

You can only book currently available time slots without prior notice.

You need to check in by collecting the StabiBox’ key during service hours at Registration | Issue Desk and providing your booking confirmation. If you don’t collect the key within 3 days after your booked time slot has started, your booking will expire and the carrel can be booked by other library patrons again.

The return of the key can be done during the entire opening hours.

Study desks für law studies are situated at 3rd floor Haus Potsdamer Straße.  

    Apply for use providing information about the intended use. Your request will be answered subject to availability and in accordance with application guidelines. You will receive an email confirming your booking or declining your request.

    You can apply for desk for 2 up to a maximum of 12 weeks within the current calendar year. All bookings run from Monday to Sunday. If you choose another day than Monday as start of your booking, the system will search for available carrels on the following Monday. The extension of a booked time period is not possible.

    Carrels for hourly use are situated

    With one booking, you can book a carrel for 1-4 hours, with a maximum of 7 bookings per month. Bookings can be made 7 days in advance.

    The use of the carrels requires on-site check-in via QR code. You will also need the PIN provided in your booking confirmation or under "My Bookings".

    Group study rooms are located in Haus Unter den Linden. 

    You can book a room for 1-4 hours within a day, with a maximum weekly usage of 12 hours. Bookings can be made 14 days in advance. Group study rooms are intended for use by multiple people. 

    Confirm your booking via an on-site check-in within 30 minutes of the start of the booked period. You will need a smartphone to scan the QR code and the PIN provided in your booking confirmation or under "My Bookings".

    The bookable study desks are situated

    Only a part of the desks in the general reading rooms is available for booking. The majority of study desks in the reading rooms can still be used without booking in effect to ensure flexible usage. 

    You can book a seat for 1-14 hours within a day, with a maximum weekly usage of 40 hours. Bookings can be made 7 days in advance. 

    You confirm your booking via an on-site check-in within 30 minutes of the start of the booked period. You will need a smartphone to scan the QR code and the PIN provided in your booking confirmation or under "My Bookings".

    For working with microfilms, especially from the newspaper collection, you can book a study desk with device in Newspaper Reading Room Unter den Linden.

    You can book a place for 1-4 hours within a day. Bookings can be made 14 days in advance.

    The desks for video conferences are located in room Utopia on site Unter den Linden. Each study desk is equipped with soundproof walls. The desks can be booked with a maximum lead time of 14 days.
