Projects

Since 1985 the map department, with the support of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation), has successfully developed the following project:

In the form of projects selected parts of the map holdings are digitised and presented on the collections portal of the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin:

The map department of the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin is a cooperation partner who has contributed expertise and parts of its unique holdings to various scientific projects, e.g.:

  • Brandenburg Viewer
The project uses historical map material, the map sheets of the Schmettausches Kartenwerk(Schmettau map series) which the map department had digitised. The Landesvermessung und Geobasisinformation Brandenburg (LGB) georeferenced and rectified the map sheets in order to create seamless maps.

  • Geodata portal Landesbetrieb Forst Brandenburg
The data of the historical forest mappings also come from the Schmettausches Kartenwerk (Schmettau map series) which is part of the library's holdings.

  • Geoportal Saxony Atlas
In the historical sections of this virtual atlas you find the Sächsische Meilenblätter (Saxon mile sheets) from the holdings of the map department.

  • Digital Wenker Atlas (DiWA) or Regionalsprache.de (REDE), the follow-up project
These projects use a basic map which was taken from a copy of the  Sprachatlas des Deutschen Reichs (Linguistic Atlas of the German Empire) edited by Georg Wenker since 1889 - also an item held by the map department.
