Die Sichtbarmachung des Sichtbaren – Berlins typografisches Kulturerbe im Open Access (Schriftmuster digital)
Project object
The goal of the cross-disciplinary joint project of the four participating institutions is to contribute to the preservation, accessibility, and visibility of Berlin's rich typographic cultural heritage in all its material and visual diversity, in a way that is equally relevant to science, the creative industries, and the public. To this end, public domain type specimens from Berlin foundries for commercial and book printing from the period before 1951 are to be made openly accessible. Furthermore, the project aims to digitize a selection of out-of-copyright wood, plastic, and especially lead typefaces from Berlin foundries in several versions, type styles, and type grades from paper printing and to prepare them for use as computer fonts.
