The Eastern Europe Department is responsible for the supply of academic literature from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Greece (from 1821 onwards), Kosovo, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, the Sorbian language areas, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Hungary, Belarus (Byelorussia) and Cyprus.
Main Focus of the Collection
The collection focuses on literature and electronic resources related to the humanities. The collection of printed works comprises more than 1.4 million volumes and is available for on-site and at-home use, as well as for national and international inter-library loans.
Specialised Information Services (FID) Slavonic Studies
Special Subject Collections were a part of a system offering nationwide library services in Germany, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). From 1998 to 2015 the Eastern Europe Department was responsible for the Special Subject Collection Slavonic Studies. Since 2016, the Department has been supervising the Specialised Information Service Slavonic Studies, also funded by the DFG. In addition to continuing the comprehensive acquisition of conventional and electronic resources for the subject, the Department further develops the innovative research tool Slavistik Portal and catalogues the contents of scientific subject-relevant journals on the platform Online Contents Slavistics.
