1881 - Ludmilla Assing, niece of Karl August Varnhagen von Ense, husband of Rahel Varnhagen - L. Assing inherited the Varnhagen von Ense autograph collection under the condition that the collection containing 400,000 autographs of 9,000 authors (in 85 boxes and 391 capsules) be reappraised and then bequeathed to the Royal Library; the collection is one of the library’s three largest autograph collections, it is currently in Krakow on loan
